Encouragement from God

Sometimes I need more encouragement than at other times. I can be affected by the things happening around me. I suppose everyone is like this.  However, I was recently reminded – again- that the Lord tells us to be strong in our walk with Him so that we won’t be affected.  Or as the Lord so beautifully puts it, “Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.”

 Ephesians 4:14

We can apply this wisdom to so many areas of our life, including our homeschooling.  Sometimes it’s so easy to be tossed back and forth by all the different ideas we read about, what our family and friends may say about our homeschooling, or even the choices of curriculum that we have available.  This is why it’s so important to go to the Lord regarding our homeschooling.  We need to pray when things aren’t going so well in our schooling. If our children are struggling, or we’re struggling, we need to pray.  In Proverbs 16:3 the Bible tells us to,

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and our plans will succeed.”

The Lord is waiting for us to commit to Him first. I know this isn’t always easy. We are given so many choices, ideas, and plans of how to homeschool, it can be overwhelming.  If you’re like me, you will even have times of doubt where you wonder if you’re really doing everything for your children that you possibly can. These are the times when we need to stop and pray. God does not want us floundering in doubt when He is there to guide us and give us wisdom!

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”  Ephesians 6:10

The only way we can be strong, and our children can be strong, and our families can be strong, is to be walking with the Lord.  Emphasize in your family the importance of reading your Bible, praying and listening for the wisdom of God to guide you.  We can only hear from God if we are in His Word!

Our family reads the Proverbs together every day.  There are 31 chapters – one for each day of the month.  We read the corresponding chapter for the date. It has strengthened our family in ways I couldn’t have imagined. The Proverbs of God are full of His wisdom and gives us guidance for our daily lives. Doing this has brought our family closer together and given us all a road map for our daily decisions in life.

Jesus Christ is our encouragement and our strength.  We just have to remember to lean more on Him!
