God Bless our New School Year

A new school year has begun!  Fresh books – fresh pencils – fresh paper – oh, how glorious! It gives one a great feeling to start out fresh, with new plans and hopes, for another year with our precious children.

Hopefully, you had a break over the summer to refresh and renew yourself. I really believe in taking a break once in a while.

We homeschool throughout the year and through summer, but we definitely take breaks to refresh and not burn out.  Everyone needs to remember that this is a vital part of homeschooling, too.  Sometimes, we get so caught up in the teaching and the learning that we forget that relaxing and letting our minds just de-stress is really important to the learning and teaching process.  If we burn ourselves or our children out, homeschooling is not going to be the wonderful and exciting experience we want it to be.  As Mom’s, we are going to feel bad because we are dreading the grading, the lesson planning and just the day to day process of teaching our children. We could even get impatient with our children which is not good at all for our relationship with them or for their enjoyment of school. I can remember when I first started homeschooling, I had such high expectations and felt my school day should look like the public school system I had just taken my children out of.  We had 7-8 hour days everyday in the beginning and they were only in 2nd and 4th grade!  Can you imagine?  Needless to say, after 2 weeks they were exhausted and so was I!  I didn’t know a thing about homeschooling and after getting connected with some really great homeschooling Moms, I started to learn that our days didn’t have to be so intense and that we could get all our lessons done in 3-4 hours! What a difference!  We all found we really enjoyed schooling at home after that!    The most important thing we can do for our children is to commit our days to the Lord and ask Him to guide us, give us patience and have our time with Him each day.  It’s important for our children to do the same.  This will refresh us like nothing else can.

May God bless your new school year and bring you and your family great joy each and every day in your homeschooling!
